Uneven, poorly-lit roads highlighted at MBSA meeting

Mayor Ahmad Zaharin instructed the council

ROAD conditions and inadequate lighting were concerns raised at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) full board meeting yesterday.

Councillor Papparaidu Veraman said he had received complaints on the condition of Jalan Persiaran Panglima Hitam from Alam Impian residents, who said the road was not only uneven but riddled with potholes.

“Though the area is still being developed and has not been handed over to the council, we should still advise the developer from time to time and convey to them the residents’ complaints,” he said.

Councillor Datuk Emran Kadir added that the roundabout along the same road was not well-lit and could be dangerous for motorists.

Papparaidu suggested that a meeting between MBSA’s engineering department and developers be held so that a solution could be found for the residents’ benefit.

Councillor Tengku Ahmad Tengku Kasim said some areas in Bukit Jelutong also lacked street lighting.

“I have received complaints from more than one precinct about lights that were not turned on or not working,” he said.

Tengku Ahmad said lighting along the main road was especially important and must be in tip-top condition, adding that complaints must be acted upon quickly.

Mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said he too had received similar complaints from an imam at the mosque in the township of poor lighting along Persiaran Gerbang Utama.

He asked the council’s electrical unit to take immediate action on the complaints raised.
