KOTA KINABALU: KPJ Healthcare Bhd is working towards making Sabah a medical tourism destination, KPJ Hospitals east Malaysia executive director Mah Lai Heng said.
She said they were striving towards providing high quality medical services to woo visitors from South-East Asian countries.
In Kota Kinabalu itself, KPJ Sabah and KPJ Damai together with two other private hospitals (Gleaneagles Hospital and Jesselton Medical Centre) provided people a choice for people seeking quality treatment.
"We hope to become a major player in medical tourism in the state,” she said, adding that it was part of their efforts to complement the Federal and state government’s aim to make Malaysia a medical tourism destination.
“Sabah is known for its beautiful natural settings with its mountains, sea and forests and we hope, as a location for medical tourism in the future,” she said during a luncheon with the media here.
She said Sarawak had moved ahead of Sabah in developing their medical tourism and this was because private healthcare providers were lacking in the state.
“We are all friendly competitors that provide good quality medical treatments,” Mah said.
She added that KPJ hospitals were working with Indonesia and the Philippines towards bringing in medical tourists and spreading their reach to China as well.
