State gets tough on timber firms


THE state government wants the big six timber companies to obtain forest management certification for at least one of their licensed areas this year.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this was to ensure that the licensees comply with sustainable forest management standards and practices and to obtain global recognition.
