TWO highways and major roads in the city will be closed tomorrow for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2017.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic police chief Asst Comm Mohd Nadzri Hussain said the road closures would start from 4am until 11.30am. Certain stretches will be closed earlier from midnight, and reopened later at 12.30pm.
The affected highways are the Ampang-KL Elevated Highway and Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway.
Some of the affected roads include Jalan Raja, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Perak, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Jelatek, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Parlimen, Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim.
Road users are advised to take public transport such as the LRT and MRT to get into the city centre during the marathon.
Trains will also be in service as early as 2am to accommodate runners and the public.
However, ACP Mohd Nadzri said there were 14 alternative routes into the city centre including through Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Bukit Bintang along Lot 10 and Jalan Tun Razak.
Waze users will also be redirected through these routes.
He said about 350 officers from the KL Traffic Division would be deployed to help control traffic, and advised road users to heed traffic officials’ instruct-ions.
About 36,000 runners will be participating in this year’s run, with over 8,000 of them aiming to complete the 42km route.
