HAVING served the British police force in then Malaya from 1949 to 1954, GS Maniam was “loaned” to the Fire Brigade to train some of the servicemen there.
However, that temporary stint turned into a permanent one as the Penangite went on to serve the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department for 32 years.
