JOHOR BARU: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said there was a sizeable number of merchants found still using the signature verification method for payment transactions instead of the new personal identification number (PIN) method.

The central bank’s payment systems policy department director Tan Nyat Chuan said some 17% to 18% of merchants in various sectors were found to have bypassed the PIN method and are still using signature verification when customers perform a payment transaction with their debit cards.
