JOHOR BARU: A thunderstorm damaged a high-rise residential building and four cars here.
Pasir Gudang MCA division chief Tan Cher Puk said strong winds had blown off roofs from an apartment block in Taman Johor Jaya at around 2.10pm on April 18.
“Besides that several trees and an electric post were uprooted causing damage to four cars along Jalan Rosmerah 3/1.
“We contacted the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and they cleared debris from the area,” he said, adding no one was injured.
The noon downpour led to flash floods in Kampung Maju Jaya, Seelong, and Kempas Lama as well. This is the second time within a week that several parts in the district have been hit by flooding.
Previously, 24 people from six families had to be evacuated after the water level rose in Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Bunga Rod, Kampung Kangkar Tebrau and Kampung Paya Kenangan on April 13.
Johor Health, Environment, Education, and Information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the flash floods was a result of heavy rainfall as well as drainage problems in the affected areas.
“We have not opened any relief centres as yet,” he said.
