Illegal 4D premises are being raided by the police in Johor.
JOHOR BARU: Forty individuals have been detained by the police for running an illegal four-digit (4D) premises during various raids conducted in the state.
Johor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Kamarulzaman Mamat said that the suspects, aged between 22 to 50 years, were all sellers and were arrested on Wednesday evening.
He said the police also seized various items including 38 printers, 38 mobile phones and RM3,580 in cash during the operations.
SAC Kamarulzaman said the operations were carried out in Kulai, Pontian, Kluang, Muar, Tangkak, Mersing and several areas in the city here.
“The suspects, comprise 37 men and three women, who are currently being detained under Section 4A (a) of the Open Gambling House 1953,” he added.
SAC Kamaruzaman said if charged and convicted, the suspects could face a fine between RM20,000 and RM200,000 and up to five years’ jail.
“The police will continue to enhance our intelligence and operations to ensure there are no illegal gambling operations in the state,” he said.
