IMMERSE yourself in Belle’s world with Beauty and the Beast-inspired displays, take part in fun activities and shop for merchandise at Sunway Pyramid until March 26.
Taking centre stage at the Orange Concourse is an elegant marble stairway adorned with gold finishing, bright candelabra and red roses mimicking the Enchanted Castle stairways.
And right in the centre of the walkway, glistening in a bell jar, is the enchanted red rose.
Malaysian designer Beatrice Looi kicked off the themed experience with a special fashion show that celebrated not just the animated classic, but also the independence of Belle and the empowerment of women.
The flow of the costumes, hand-stitched by Looi, followed the general arc of the story from introducing Belle with a book in hand strolling through the market to presenting town folk like the baker’s wife, Gaston and LeFou.
Malaysian singer Nikki Palikat set the mood with her powerful rendition of Be Our Guest, Little Town, and Something There That Wasn’t There Before.
Then, she blew the crowd away with the anticipated theme song, Beauty and The Beast, as Looi presented shoppers with her take on Belle’s iconic ball gown and beast’s best suit.
If you are wondering, no, the Beast at Sunway Pyramid did not wear a beastly mask, but took the true form of the prince.
Looi said each dress showcased her unique interpretation of the classic tale, and how it shaped and empowered her as a modern woman and a designer.
“Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney animations as Belle is different in that she is not the usual damsel in distress, but a strong and progressive female lead.
“This inspired the collection which combines her boldness and feminism,” said Looi.
She said she was thrilled to have the opportunity to craft the collection.
Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer H.C. Chan said nothing created memories like a Disney classic.
“As part of Sunway City, we constantly strive to create new, memorable and unique experiences for shoppers of all walks of life as they spend time here with their families.
“This partnership is a classic example of reconnecting the young and old through a tale as old as time,” he said.
The Beauty and the Beast experience is happening not only at Sunway Pyramid, but also at Sunway Carnival Mall in Penang until March 26.
During this time, children and adults can take part in colouring, airbrush tattoo and nail art workshops all day round, and participate in creative rose-making workshop on weekends.
