Previously known as Kinta Selatan, Kampar became the 10th district in the state in 2009 under the late Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah. Since then, the district has rapidly grown thanks to the emergence of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, housing projects, and tourism.
