MORE than 4,000 people are expected to take part in Tesco Malaysia’s Walk For Kids 2017 walkathon to help raise funds for seven underserved adopted schools in the Klang Valley.

Having adopted 59 underserved schools nationwide under the School Adoption Programme last year, the event is one of Tesco Malaysia’s annual fund-raising activities to provide financial assistance to the schools as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Scheduled to be held on Feb 26 at Sports Complex, Desa Park City, the 2.3km walkathon aims to raise RM200,000 to be channelled to the programme.

Tesco Malaysia corporate services director Azliza Baizura Azmel said the company was excited to organise the event for the schools that it has adopted.

“Although we have 59 adopted schools, the proceeds from this event will be channelled to only seven selected schools in Klang Valley as these schools need the financial assistance to improve some crucial facilities and fund school programmes,” Azliza said.

The seven selected schools are SMK Segambut, SMK Kepong, SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4, SK Tropicana, SK Taman Dato’ Harun 2, SK Pandan Jaya and Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih.

“We believe the selected schools will benefit from the financial assistance they will receive from this fund-raising event,” Azliza added.

Throughout the three-year adoption programme launched with Pintar Foundation, Tesco Malaysia will be supporting the adopted schools in areas of education, student welfare, nutritional awareness and greener living initiatives.

Co-hosted by television and radio personalities Kevin Chong and Sasha Bashir, the event will be filled with exciting activities such as an arm wrestling challenge by Malaysia’s Female Mixed Martial Arts champion Ann Osman and performances by local band Hydra Malaysia.

Walk For Kids 2017 is now open for registration until Feb 19 at RM50 per adult and RM20 per child aged below 12 years old. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, a goodie bag and a finishing medal.

Those interested can register at the customer service counters at Tesco Ara Damansara, Tesco Kepong, Tesco Paradigm, Tesco Extra Mutiara Damansara, Tesco Extra Selayang and Tesco Extra Ampang.

Those who miss the registration deadline can register at the registration counter on the day of the event.
