THE rooster flew high at the launch of the Carlsberg Chinese New Year campaign held in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

More than 250 guests gathered near the 1.83m rooster structure at the mall’s centre court as they welcomed the start of the festivities to the beat of the drum by none other than Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Lars Lehmann.

Lehmann also tapped a glass of fresh Carlsberg Smooth Draught beer, which made the brewer’s hop leaf logo light up and set a weather vane spinning.

“The Mandarin pronunciation of rooster is similar to the word opportunity, and Carlsberg wishes everyone a year filled with golden opportunities,” he said.

In conjunction with the theme and to complement its catchphrase of “Probably the Best Beer in the World”, Lehmann said Carlsberg had launched its “Probably the Best CNY Shopping Experience” where the brewer paid for customers’ purchases.

“This shopping experience started last weekend, and 160 shoppers have had their shopping bills paid for,” he said, urging more people to go out and shop.

More than 670 shoppers have already participated in the event that spanned six hours over two days.

The last two days for this shopping experience is on Jan 14 and 15, from noon to 3pm.

Shoppers who purchase Carlsberg Malaysia’s products worth RM200 and above at eight participating Aeon and Aeon Big outlets will be eligible to participate in the “Weather Vane Digital Spin” and stand a chance to get their Chinese New Year groceries paid for by the brewery.

Venues include Aeon Bukit Tinggi, Cheras Selatan, Queensbay, Ipoh Station 18, as well as Aeon Big Batu Pahat, Falim, Kepong and Subang Jaya.

Carlsberg will also be running a nationwide consumer promotion across hundreds of restaurants, coffeeshops and food courts until Feb 28.

Customers who purchase three big bottles of Carlsberg or Carlsberg Smooth Draught will receive a deck of playing cards and get a chance to win other bonus prizes, including the Samsung Home Theatre System and Ogawa Handheld massager.
