JOHOR BARU: State investment arm Johor Corporation (JCorp) has raised RM210,000 for the Middle East Conflict Humanitarian Fund in collaboration with Mercy Malaysia.
The donation was received from several units under its stable including Kulim (M) Bhd, KPJ Healthcare Bhd, QSR Brands (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd and Johor Land Bhd.
President and chief executive officer Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said apart from raising funds internally, JCorp would also place the donation boxes at selected mosques and its private specialist hospitals.
“The proceeds will be channelled to war victims in Syria, Palestine and Yemen,” he said at the launch of the fund at Persada Johor International Convention Centre here on Tuesday.
Also present at the event was JCorp’s welfare body Mutiara Johor Corporation chairman Datin Noor Laila Yahaya and Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus.
Kamaruzzaman said the boxes would be placed at all JCorp owned buildings here – Komtar JBCC, Galleria@Kotaraya, @Mart Kempas community market, Larkin Sentral Transport Terminal and the lobbies of The Puteri Pacific Johor Baru Hotel and Persada Johor.
“We also welcome private companies and corporation bodies to donate to the fund,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Noor Laila said the fund was started on Dec 23, 2016 and JCorp employees as well as the public have until the end of next month to contribute to the fund.
“The proceeds from the fund will be channelled to Mercy Malaysia for medical supplies and medical equipment to be distributed to war victims in the three countries,’’ she said.
Noor Laila said Malaysian doctors joining Mercy Malaysia humanitarian missions in Syria, Palestine and Yemen would also assist doctors offering medical treatment and services to victims there.
The donation boxes are also placed at Masjid An-Nur Sultan Iskandar Bandar Datuk Onn, Masjid An-Nur Johor Baru and Masjid An-Nur Larkin Sentral in Johor Baru and Masjid An-Nur Bandar Pasir Gudang, Masjid An-Nur Taman Cendana and Masjid An-Nur Kompleks Bandar Pasir Gudang in Pasir Gudang.
Other locations are KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital and KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital in Johor Baru, KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital and KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur and KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital in Shah Alam, Selangor.
