SMJK Poi Lam moves to new facility costing RM16mil

A BRAND new year, a brand new school building.

SMJK Poi Lam, previously located along Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab in Ipoh for 61 years, is now located in Bandar Seri Klebang.

SMJK Poi Lam Parents-Teachers Association Chairman Tan Teik Keat said it took the school about to three months to shift whatever furniture or equipment they could still use from the old school building to the new one.

“The school building, which cost about RM16mil, was completed in September last year.

“We hope this new building will bring us good tidings for a ‘new’ beginning,” he said after the launching of the new building by International Trade and Industries Minister II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan last Sunday.

Tan said the new building chas 44 classrooms, an open hall, nine laboratories, a library, canteen and several co-curriculum rooms.

“We have about 1,300 secondary school students here.

“We are also sharing most of the facilities with the primary school that moved in to an adjacent building three years ago,” he said, adding that there are about 1,200 primary school pupils.
