More opportunity for blue-collar jobs Automotive sector alone set to create 27,000 jobs this year

The National Automotive Policy 2014 aspites to turn Malaysia into a regional production hub for energy-efficient vehicles by 2020

KUCHING: The automotive sector is expected to create about 27,000 job opportunities this year, as the country continues its push for the industry’s growth.

Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) chief executive officer Datuk Madani Sahari said 25,000 jobs were offered in the automotive industry last year amid positive outlook.

“The National Automotive Policy 2014 has targeted to turn Malaysia into a regional production hub for energy-efficient vehicles by 2020. “Six roadmaps have been planned to support this policies including human capital development.

“Under the roadmap, MAI has initiated various industry-based training programme as well as interview for graduates with industry players upon completion of training, to produce competent workers in high-technology manufacturing process,” he said at the launch of the state-level Industry-led Professional Certificate (IPC) programme.

Programmes run by MAI aimed to produce skilled workforce that can garner high income and bring positive impact to the growth of the country’s automotive industry.

Madani added that the institute was offering its IPC programme this February and March to school leavers with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Malaysian Skills Certificate and Malaysian Skills Diploma.

The IPC programme, the first in Sarawak, would provide a good platform for youths to obtain skills and job opportunities in the automotive sector, he said.

MAI is an agency under the International Trade and Industry Ministry formed to overlook the development of all aspects of the country’s automotive industry, including analysis, redefining and proposing new policies, human capital development, technology, supply chain as well as coordinating after-sales activities.

“The IPC programme, which started in 2012, has trained close to 20,000 individuals and promising 100% employment with above-market salaries. “The programme aimed to train workforce with various skills particularly in manufacturing, quality and maintenance.

At the same time, IPC looked to reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign workers,” added Madani.

The event also welcomed 140 IPC trainees from Sarawak who will begin their programme for six months. At the event, Madani also presented hampers and monetary aid to 64 children from Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah children’s home.
