MIRI: The Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) here has launched an initiative to inform the public of the need to update their Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) accounts.
The party is setting up mobile counters in various locations to disseminate information to Miri folk who are unaware of the directive as well and helping them update their BR1M accounts.
SUPP Piasau branch secretary Karambir Singh said hundreds of people visited the mobile booths daily.
“We will set up more counters as the crowds are coming in non-stop,” he told StarMetro at a SUPP mobile counter in Chinatown here.
The party has so far set up three counters in Miri.
Karambir said SUPP planned to move into residential areas and commercial centres outside the city centre to expand its reach.
Armed with mobile laptops, printers, photocopy machines and handphones, SUPP officials and grssroot leaders move in groups to help the public, especially illiterate and disabled folk, log onto the BR1M websites.
“We get all sorts of enquiries here and phone calls from the public asking for technical assistance.
Karambir said the Government had issued a directive that all BR1M accounts must be updated but there were still many people unaware of this development.
“There are also those who know about the directive but they are not sure what to do.
“And there are new applicants too,” he noted.
He said the mobile units were prepared to look into all enquiries from BR1M recipients.
“Members of the public need to bring their personal BR1M account details and their MyKad,” he added.
