Top 10 attractions near latest MRT stations


WITH the 12 new stations on Phase One of the MRT SBK Line up and running, StarMetro has listed out things that commuters can do and eat during their journey to their destinations.

1. Lunchtime stalls and food trucks at Semantan Station

Unless your office space is located in this vicinity or if you are a student at Help University, it may seem like there is not much to do in this area.

Walk up the slope of Jalan Dungun for about 10 minutes during lunchtime on weekdays and you will find a plethora of food trucks.

There are mixed rice stalls and gourmet food trucks selling all sorts of Western dishes on this row.

2. Gourmet grocery shopping at Pusat Bandar Damansara Station

There are two shopping malls closest to this station namely Bangsar Shopping Centre, which is a seven-minute walk away, and the DC Wholesale Mall a five-minute drive away.

You can purchase imported foods and baked goods at Jason’s Food Hall in Bangsar Shopping Centre and for those who want to enjoy alcoholic drinks at the numerous bars in the mall, you can always reach home safely by the MRT.

2. GOURMET GROCERY SHOPPING AT PUSAT BANDAR DAMANSARA STATION You can purchase imported foods and baked goods at Jason’s Food Hall in Bangsar Shopping Centre

3. SS2 food court near Phileo Damansara Station

From the station, take the T816 MRT feeder bus to its first stop at SS2 for some of the best dim sum, rojak buah and fried nian gao.

One food truck in particular is the 30-year-old kuih stall affectionately known at SS2 Goreng Pisang located opposite Restaurant Pelita from noon to 5pm daily except Mondays.

With the 15-minute bus intervals, you can also get all your banking needs sorted in this vicinity.

4. Classic food at Taman Tun Dr Ismail Station

Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) is known for its landmark wet market on Jalan Wan Kadir and of late its booming cafe culture.

A five-minute walk from the MRT station will take you to Damansara Kim or Jalan SS20/11, where two rows of eateries serve some of the best and more affordable meal options in the neighbourhood.

Try the nasi lemak or assam laksa at Ho Li Chow restaurant or go for the fish head noodle at Fish and Noodle House for a hearty meal under RM10 and finish off with the peanut butter pie from Lat Tali Lat cafe all within a stone’s throw from each other.

5. Rooftop Garden at Bandar Utama Station

This giant shopping mall is home to numerous retail outlets cinemas, but for urban folk craving some greenery, the Rooftop Secret Garden at 1Utama Shopping Centre is a dream come true.

With close to 600 species of plants, the garden is perfect for family and couples to visit whether to be closer to nature or just to take lovely pictures together. From the station, the T812 MRT feeder bus or 1Utama shuttle bus will take you to the mall.

6. Ice skating at Mutiara Damansara Station

Besides Ikea and The Curve Shopping Mall, you can try ice skating at The Royale Bintang Damansara which is a five-minute walk away.

Open from 10am to 10pm daily, there are also ice skating classes available through walk-in registration for groups and individuals.

6. ICE SKATING AT MUTIARA DAMANSARA STATION. Besides IKEA and The Curve Shopping Mall, you can try your hand at ice skating the rink in The Royale Bintang Damansara which is within five minutes walking distance.

7. Dataran Sunway at Surian Station

Conveniently located next to Sunway Giza Mall and Dataran Sunway, passengers who alight at Surian station will find themselves in the heart of a food enclave. There are restaurants and cafes for everyone from the public food court to classy Japanese restaurants, with many establishments in the area also catering to night owls.

8. Kota Dame at Kota Damansara Station

Formerly known as Uptown Kota Damansara, Kota Dame is a thriving food enclave and night market for budding entrepreneurs in the area, reachable via feeder bus route T806 – Selangor Science Park. The station is also conveniently located within walking distance of Tropicana Medical Centre and Segi University.

9. Sungai Buloh New Village at Kampung Selamat Station

There is not much to see in the immediate vicinity of the station until the Mah Sing Group’s D’Sara Sentral mixed development project is completed, but hopping aboard feeder bus route T104 will take you to the heart of Sungai Buloh New Village. Alight at the police station to explore the many restaurants in the area from dim sum to seafood restaurants.

10. Sungai Buloh KTM Interchange at Sungai Buloh station

The Sungai Buloh MRT Station is currently the only one with a KTM interchange, allowing commuters to travel up to Tanjung Malim, Perak at one end, all the way to Sungai Gadut, Negri Sembilan at the other. The KTM line passes stations such as Rawang, KL Sentral, Mid Valley, Serdang, Kajang, Bangi, Nilai and Seremban. Locations reachable from the station via feeder bus include the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Bukit Rahman Putra, Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, and Kampung Paya Jaras.

10. Sungai Buloh station - While it is necessary to take feeder buses to reach Sungai Buloh Hospital or Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh from the station, the station has a couple of shops open and is directly linked to the KTM station below.
