Mycybersale 2016 has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records for the ‘most participating online merchants in an online sale event’.

MALAYSIA Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced the return of the country’s biggest online sale event, #MYCYBERSALE 2016, for the third year running.

The five-day online event, which started on Monday, ends tomorrow.

This year’s sale offers the largest number of participating merchants compared with the previous two sale events.

With more than 600 merchants, #MYCYBERSALE has made its way into the Malaysia Book Records for the “most participating online merchants in an online sale event”.

The event also has participation from major international brands such as Uniqlo, Giordano, Kinokuniya, Levi’s and Dell.

MDEC chief executive officer Datuk Yasmin Mahmood said, “e-Commerce in Malaysia is projected to contribute at least RM170bil to the GDP by 2020. Given its growth potential, it is recognised as one of the key enablers for the country’s economic growth.

“Over the past two events, #MYCYBERSALE has accelerated the adoption of eCommerce among online sellers.

“This year, for the first time, we have more than 150 Malaysian brands participating and we aim to touch RM200mil in revenue over five days of the sale, growing by over 100% from last year.”

#MYCYBERSALE, an initiative by MDEC, aims to catalyse the growth of the eCommerce industry and increase the domestic eCommerce revenue.

It also features local brands such as Sunway Group, Royal Selangor, 123RF and Christy Ng.

Last year, it recorded RM117.7mil in Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV), a massive 75% increase from 2014.

For the very first time, #MYCYBERSALE 2016 has all four Malaysian airlines – Malaysia Airlines, FireFly, AirAsia and Malindo – and even pharmaceutical companies participating.

The event also sees the emergence of several innovations in the Malaysian eCommerce space, such as mobile wallet providers – MOLWallet (by MOLPay) and MPAY Wallet (by ManagePay Berhad) as well as MOL Cash, whereby buyers without credit cards can pay for selected items using cash at a nearest 7-Eleven or Petronas outlet.

Additionally, half-mile delivery from partners such as PostCo, Popbox and Inpost make buying even more attractive.

To ensure convenience without compromising on privacy, with half-mile delivery, customers can purchase and have their items sent to nearby collection points.

Customers no longer need to worry about receiving the order at home or office when they are not around.

#MYCYBERSALE 2016 also offers three new players – Zepto Express, Matdespatch and Dego – that provide door-to-door delivery on the same day.
