I AM not going to be popular with workers this week. I think it is absurd for the Selangor government to declare Monday a state holiday just because its football team won the Malaysia Cup. How can the holiday be a mark of appreciation for the team? Why not just give the team a donation?
It is quite a damning indictment of our nation’s expectations that even a local trophy is worth a public holiday.
