Local brand Eclipse paves a new path with modern classics.

KNOWN for their sleek and slinky outfits, Eclipse went for a different look in the Fall/Winter 2014 collection.

This season, it features leatherette, baseball-inspired zip-up jackets worn over turtle neck sweater tops, A-line panel skirts, throw over coats with soft ribbed knits and faux leather cropped pants.

Classic neutrals with begonia as a highlight formed the main colour palette while fabrics such as double face wool, hammered and bio-washed crepes, unwashed denim, cool wool knitwear, satin backed silk and silk gazar are used throughout.

Prints abound in this collection with photo prints of oversized graphic pearls and matt sequins playing a starring role. Inspiration was derived from the constructivist art works of Anton-Stantowski.

For the evening, one will find pieces that have been hand appliqued with manicured bead pieces which provide a great textural contrast to otherwise simple, yet feminine silhouettes.

This is a collection where all the pieces have been reworked in new proportions for a modern appeal.

“We are making a bold move by embracing a new spirit in our eclipse brand identity. That is the only way a fashion brand can innovate and move forward as we strive to be in the forefront of the fashion industry,” said designer Sonny San.

“When I designed the upcoming collection, I wanted to create modern clothes which are timeless yet classic in aesthetics,” he said.

“Coincidentally, one weekend while I was watching a series of old movies, Arthur Hiller’s 1970 classic Love Story caught my attention. No one was more beautiful in it than Ali MacGraw.

“The iconic style of Ali MacGraw became the defining marker of the fashion era. What always fascinated me about her is her innate and individual sense of style. This clearly comes from the artistic side of her upbringing and this is what continues to help Ali look ageless.”

Further affirmation came about during a recent fitting with Deborah Henry, who is the face of the Fall/Winter 2014 campaign, as Henry was smitten with the collection.

“She loved the idea that the collection had pieces she could mix and match to create a wardrobe that is fashionable yet timeless,” San added.

Truly a versatile collection of classic pieces, it was one that has been designed with a new customer in mind and that is the jet-setting career woman who prefers a sophisticated yet anonymous approach to dressing which is defined by separates where she can get most mileage from each piece.

The Eclipse Fall/Winter 2014 collection is currently available at Eclipse stores nationwide.
