Style setters

Vibrant colours, a sleekness in silhouettes and plenty of shine are among the trends for Autumn/ Winter 2014.

A NEW season in fashion means new looks and a wardrobe update.

With the Autumn/Winter collections in stores now, we take a look at some key trends this season.

60s Mod

Fashion is cyclical, and every season, there’s bound to be an era that takes a turn. This time around, the 60s are revisited with a fresh update. Minis are the ones to watch, so show some legs in a cute dress.

Gucci plays it sweet with a powder blue leather mini with ruffles.

Louis Vuitton’s yellow tweed mini dress with leather empire waistline and zip detailing gives it an edgy vibe.

At Valentino, a plunging V-neckline adds a hint of sex-appeal to the polka dotted retro mini.

Bold and Bright

Leave the dark blue, grey and gloom for the winter skies and raise your spirits with vibrant colours.

For a subtle look. CH Carolina Herrera adds a punch of colour with a bright orange leather skirt, neutral sweater and coat.

For a statement, go with the likes of Dior’s clashing fuchsia and emerald dress or a bright yellow coat with print innerlay from Chanel.

That added shine

Every woman needs some shimmer and sparkle in her wardrobe and nothing gets the job done better than metallics.

Emilio Pucci’s fully embellished long sleeved mini sweater dress is eye catching thanks to the intricate detailing.

Gucci’s sleeveless white dress is a vision with its encrusted neckline and shoulder detailing as well as peek-a-boo columns on the skirt.

Valentino’s metallic butterfly jacquard with encrusted peter pan collar is demure and fun yet haunting at the same time.

Leather on leather

Forget the days when leather was a single piece in an outfit, it is now the whole ensemble. The trick is lightweight leather and the right pairing.

Emilio Pucci’s brown leather mini is snug under a fur trimmed brown leather jacket with knee-high leather boots while Gucci plays a more subtle card with a sage-green long-sleeved leather top with ruffles, tucked into a brown A-line mini skirt and knee high leather boots.

Valentino goes with a brown leather suit jacket and leather skirt with fringing.

Focus on prints

Prints are also strong this season as designers sent out a variety ranging from geometric to floral.

Prada had clashing colours and prints, though you can go for a more low key style in a purple and yellow print dress.

Chanel too, featured prints, and and this bright coloured dress is a statement piece.

For a striking effect, Roberto Cavalli’s gorgeous patterned blue dress is perfect.

Masculine edge

Wearing menswear has never been more feminine and chic.

An oxblood pantsuit is seen at Dior while Giorgio Armani’s light grey jacket and top are paired with cropped dark grey, wide-legged pants. Gucci goes for a lighter touch with a blush pantsuit of rose pink, long-sleeved leather top with ruffles, and a cropped fur jacket to top it off.

Pucci goes for an embellished pantsuit for a glamourous touch.

The black number

The one key look that never goes out of fashion is the little black dress. Available in different shapes and forms, every woman should find one that suits her best.

CH Carolina Herrera’s LBD is a beautiful knee length boatneck dress with minimal pleating from the waistline cinched in at the waist.

For those blessed with natural curves, Dior’s form fitting long sleeved jacquard dress with square neckline and front thigh-high split is the dress for you.

And for something with an old-fashioned sweeteness, Saint Laurent’s sweetheart collar black dress is definitely a keeper.
