Canadian designer Patrick Cox dishes out a collection of stylish techy-cool shoes for Geox’s 2014 spring/summer capsule collection.

AFTER an esteemed career designing shoes for Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, London-based, Canadian-born Patrick Cox is in the limelight again, having launched his latest collection of techy-cool shoes with Italian shoe brand, Geox.

In the women’s capsule collection, the designer – famed for his cutting edge and eye-catching shoes – highlights bright sunset colours to welcome the spirit of spring and summer. Describing the collection as “Pop Tropical”, Cox gives a modern feel to classical styles by adding contrasting and mix-matched textures and materials.

To add a contemporary feel, the fashion guru has designed a selection of sandals (high wedges or flat thongs) and sneakers (fat zippered hi-tops and casual slip-ons) in suede which are then dipped in glossy paint and further enhanced with colours such as tan and canary yellow, black and white and sand and milk.

If contrasting patterns catch your fancy, check out Cox’s collection of eye-catching zebra and tiger prints on sneakers, loafers and sandals. For an edgier feel, shoes are given the pop treatment by splashing vivid colours such as fuchsia and turquoise. There’s also an unexpected mix of materials such as suede, kid, patent and pony skin with shiny metal details.

Cox adds his signature techni-colour vision to a collection of sneakers and boat shoes, featuring the yellow/orange and fuchsia gradiated colour treatment.

For the men’s collection, Cox’s cutting edge style and eye for design is combined with Geox’s offering of comfortable breathable footwear for fashion-conscious men. He turns to an almost minimalist mood using a natural colour palette, contrasting textures and urban materials.

Regarding elements infused into the collaboration, Cox said on “I wanted to use Geox’s technology and Italian construction with my strengths. The collection is all about using more traditional uppers. I’m obsessed with brogues right now, so we made hybrid shoes – something that you would assume would have a traditional sole, we put a funky sneaker sole on it.”

Similar to the women’s collection, Cox also does textual contrasts where derby shoes, Chelsea boots and sneakers in supple butter soft suede are “dipped” in glossy paint and further enhanced by two-tone aspects such as tan and orange, black and white and sand and milk.

The highlight in the collection is the new sporty sneaker and loafer hybrid, which is designed with a two-part sole with a chromed shank. Other stand-outs are the concealed running shoe in pebbled leather with bright contrast lining and sole, and boat shoe which is given a modern minimal updated where Cox replaces lacing with elastic, in offbeat tricolour combinations.

Besides Cox’s capsule collection, there are other stylish shoe designs under Geox’s spring/summer 2014.

The women’s collection features floral patterns, soft powdery tones, surface treatment and spirit lifting imagery of Eden, which pushes Geox’s revolutionary technology into new ground.

Created sturdier, more rainproof and six times more breathable, the improved range has assorted classic and casual styles ranging from sneakers (high and low), peep-toe pumps, loafers and strappy sandals with contrast piping, kitten heels to ballerina flats. Colour wise, pearlised leathers in light gray and toffee brown are seasonal favourites, while goat leather and suede sling-backs are revved up with geranium red, mink brown and sun-drenched yellow.

Geox designed by Patrick Cox 2014 Spring/Summer capsule collection is given a modern revamp with constrasting and unusal textures and materials. This sneaker features a textual contrast of matt and shiny and is further enhanced by two-tone aspect - sand and white.

There is also a range of high tops, desert boots, boat shoes and loafers suited for informal affairs and casual Fridays.
