There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to eye care. Just ask Clarins. Since launching its first eye cream in 1966, Clarins has created nine different products just for the eye contour. Its latest, Clarins Extra-Firming Eye Complete Rejuvenating Cream, contains all the latest advances in skincare and is specifically for Asian women.
“We identify the need, study the concerns, and then screen the ingredients. Then we work with our botanists to select the best ingredients to develop a product with efficient absorption and good sensorial quality,” says Nathalie Issachar, marketing development and scientific communication director at Clarins.
According to a 2013 study by French Opinion and Marketing Studies Institute, 63% out of 2,000 Chinese women from age 18 to 55 said that their eyes were their most important asset for seductive appeal.
Clarins Research was inspired by the practice of independent experts in cosmetic medicine in Asia, says Issachar. “We had conversations with plastic surgeons to understand the specifics of the eye area of Asians,” she says.
They found that most medical procedures in Asia are done on two triangles around the eyes: the lateral and lower triangles. The lateral triangle is the outer corner of the eyes where wrinkles and crow’s feet form, whereas the lower eyelid, which is heavy due to fatty tissues, collapses from the loss of firmness. This lower triangle is where eye bags happen, and as fatty tissue increases and lymphatic flow slows down, the skin becomes thinner, loses density, and dark circles appear more visible.
