An Italian company uses new technology to penetrate deeper into the hair follicle to stimulate healthy hair growth.
While many assume men handle losing hair better than women, that’s not really true as it’s a distressing experience for both genders. Hair loss can be hereditary, a red flag for a physical or mental health issue, or a sign of change.
“Losing hair is not only a physical problem as it has a big psychological impact. Women, especially those with long hair, will see it more obviously and suffer a loss of femininity. Both men and women lose confidence, and depression may take over,” said Chiara Marchese, international sales and marketing director of Giuliani S.p.A. at the launch of Tricovel in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Giuliani is a private company founded by pharmacist and chemist Germano Giuliani in Milan, Italy in 1889. Run by the fourth generation of the family today, the company develops, manufactures and distributes products that focus on the treatment and management of stomach and intestinal disorders and skin disorders.
“Giuliani is a pharmaceutical and not a cosmetic company, and Tricovel works as it is clinically proven,” she stressed. Tricovel (pronounced Tree-co-vel and known as Bioscalin in Italy), an anti-hair loss patented compound developed by Giuliani, is distributed by LiveLife Sdn Bhd in Malaysia.
Marchese explained that there are three phases in the life cycle of hair: anagen, in which there is growth and formation of keratin; catagen, a progressive cessation of vital functions; and telogen, the resting phase where hair has no more anchorage and gradually falls out.
“It’s normal to lose 80 to 100 hairs per day and problems arise when, after hair falls, the hair is not replaced or the new one grows thinner and weaker, resulting in net hair loss,” she said.
According to Marchese, there are various types of hair loss with the most common being androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium.
Androgenetic alopecia is a progressive and slow hair loss induced by the action of androgens on genetically predisposed individuals, and is more common in men, and during menopause for women. On the other hand, telogen effluvium, causes copious and temporary loss due to unbalanced diets, change in seasons, sun exposure, smoking, emotional stress, child birth and medication.
“Tricovel works for telogen effluvium, which causes temporary hair loss that may last from a month to a year,” she said. “The main component of Tricovel is Biogenina, a patented compound that performs a revitalising action to counteract the causes of telogen effluvium. Biogenina prolongs the anagen phase, stimulates hair shaft elongation so it promotes the growth of healthy hair and counteracts loss.”
She pointed out that Biogenina is unique, not only for its efficacy, but because it also has a patented micellar technology that guarantees a prolonged release of the active ingredients. She said that this new technology allows deep penetration into the hair follicle so that it isn’t removed by subsequent hair washes.
“This prolonged technology is crucial as it allows users the convenience of applying this product only once every three days, unlike other products that require twice daily usage or every day,” she said. “The clinical trials over a period of three months involved 90 patients with severe cases of hair loss. The study included dermatological evaluation, pull test, wash test and hair shaft diameter.”
The summary of the results showed a 63% reduction of hair loss, an increased hair strength of 80%, and 87% of patients said they had fuller-bodied hair. “It is recommended to use Tricovel for a period of three months. Some people have reported a positive feedback after using it for just a month. You don’t need to use it longer than three months.”
If remembering to apply a product every other day is challenging, there is an alternative. According to LiveLive’s CEO Aileen Chan, they plan to bring in Tricovel in tablet form in the future. Until you get to pop a pill for hair loss, you will just have to rely on your calendar to prompt you that it’s Tricovel time.
