It goes both ways

IN the newspapers over the last weekend, when the newly formed “Kelab Taat Suami” was introduced, its name was translated as “Obedient Wives Club”. I was puzzled, because taat means “loyal” and suami means “husband”. But this was overlooked in the furore caused by a spokesperson’s comment at the launch that “a good wife is also a whore in bed” — something I’m quite sure “kelab”, “taat” or “suami” doesn’t mean. (Press conference video at youtube.com/watch?v=6Fejo_m6pqc.)

The representative immediately apologised for using that word, but she emphasised that wives should “serve their husbands better than a first-class prostitute”.
