Learn from British artist
ARE you an aspiring artist with dreams of publishing your own manga or graphic novel? Here’s your chance to pick up some tricks of the trade from one of the rising international stars in manga illustration.
In conjunction with its promotion of Manga Shakespeare – a series of graphic novels that presents the tales of Shakespeare as manga characters – the British Council is organising a free workshop on illustrating graphic novels and manga by Paul Duffield, winner of Tokyopop’s Rising Stars of Manga and the International Manga and Anime Festival.
Duffield, an illustrator and animator who takes influence from a fusion of manga and European comics, graduated with a BA in animation at Kingston University in London and illustrated The Tempest, one of the selections from the Manga Shakespeare series.
He will take participants through drawing exercises that focus on observing and drawing the figure, the process of designing a character, and producing a character sheet with turn-arounds, costumes and notes.
Details of the workshop are as follows:
Date: Saturday, Jan 26, 2008
Time: 10am-4.30pm
Venue: Dram Projects, BG-6 Happy Mansion, Jalan 17/13, 46400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Spaces are limited, so register early by e-mailing arts@britishcouncil.org.my.
