The American actress and her British rocker husband announce their amicable split.
After 10 years of marriage, Iron Man actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin of Coldplay have decided to go their separate ways. Now, who saw that coming?
There are rumours that Paltrow’s highly-publicised Vanity Fair tell-all article – which unfortunately did not get released in March as planned – played a part in the break up.
It also didn’t help that Paltrow, 41, was just recently accused of having an affair with Hollywood lawyer Kevin Yorn, as well as Elle MacPherson’s billionaire husband Jeff Soffer.
Paltrow and Martin, 37, announced on the former’s successful, but always criticised website Goop.com that despite trying to work on their marriage, it was time to move on.
In the entry titled Conscious Uncoupling, the former power couple stated:
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separate, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.
“We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner. Love, Gwyneth and Chris.” The website crashed right after she made this announcement.
Paltrow, who won a Best Actress Academy Award for Shakespeare In Love, and British singer Martin were married in a secret ceremony in Southern California in December 2003. The couple have two children, Apple and Moses.
