The Cronut king has come up with yet another pastry invention – and has some people tittering.

If you’re in New York City this summer, get yourself down to Dominique Ansel’s bakery in Soho. Starting today and all through the season, the baked goods meister – known not least for the Cronut – is serving up a new creation in town and you’ll want to be one of those who gets a taste of it.

On paper, it’s just a peanut butter pretzel roll. But as we all know by now, Ansel doesn’t just do anything.

This time, he’s come up with a soft pretzel stuffed with peanut butter and buttercrunch brittle ... in the shape of a lobster. It’s sprinkled with Maldon sea salt and – just like the cooked crustacean – served warm with a whipped brown butter honey sauce. It sells for US$8 (RM26) a pop.

Unexpectedly, it wasn’t immediately hailed as a phenomenon. When Ansel introduced it on ABC’s Good Morning America yesterday, people on Instagram said it looked like a penis. Okaaaaay. Well, admittedly the picture on GMA's twitter feed wasn’t the most flattering, but here’s another – a stylised version, which may look a little different from the real thing (above) – that will surely have a lot of people drooling. According to Ansel, the shape allows the eater to easily break off bite-sized pieced for dunking into the sauce.
