Here are a few offers during this fasting month.
Turkish delight at BIG
“I have twice fallen in love with Istanbul. The first time was with the city and its people on my maiden trip. The second time round was when my wife-to-be said yes to marrying me against the backdrop of the Bosphorus,” says the founder of The Big Group Benjamin Yong – better known by KL’s foodies as Ben.
It’s no wonder then that Yong has chosen this city or, more specifically, its famous Grand Bazaar as the backdrop for his food bazaar this Ramadan. Called the BIG Bazaar, the evening soiree allows guests to dine alfresco-style on freshly made Turkish cuisine such as shish kebab, lamb kofta, tomato dolmas, oven-baked Turkish shortrib, fattoush salad, among others. There’s also ayam masak merah, opor daging, biryani kaming and katmer for those who reckon nothing beats good ol’ kampung-inspired fare for buka puasa.
Once you’ve had your fill, feast your eyes on an array of performances, from sufi dances to ghazal recitals to a paper marbling demonstration. Another big highlight is the Turkish shadow play performance– an art that dates back to the Ottoman empire – by talented artists who are exclusively flown in from Turkey by the BIG Bazaar’s official cultural advisors, the Turkish Tourism Board. From Tuesdays to Fridays, the acoustic tunes of local busking geniuses add some sizzle to the festive atmosphere.
The Big Bazaar runs from July 11 to 26 at The Square, Publika. For more information, visit www.thebiggroup.com. – LOUISA LIM

Breaking fast with Mission Naan
Naan, an Indian delicatessen flat-bread traditionally baked in a clay oven is exceptionally versatile and compatible with foods around the world. It, however, takes time to prepare and requires a special tandoor oven. Mission Naan takes away the hassle of preparing this bread from scratch.
Recently, celebrity chef Nik Michael Imran showcased twists to Malaysian favourites using Mission Naan (available in two flavours – Plain, and Garlic and Herbs). He prepared three types of starters, including Home-Cured Salmon with Cream Cheese and Micro Chives on buttered and grilled Mission Naan, followed by four main dishes. Two of these were deep-fried soft shelled crab in sambal, and chargrilled beef tenderloin in rendang sauce.
Mission Naan is available at the bread isles of all major supermarkets. Each resealable packet contains four full naans and retails from RM5.79 per pack.
For more information about Mission Naan visit the website at missionfoods.com.au.
