Mario and Jamie are winners, along with chocolate-theme restaurant chain.
The digital experts and people agree: the best food and drink website of 2014 is that of a chocolate-themed restaurant chain that serves syringes filled with liquid chocolate, pizza chocolate and vanilla ice cream bars with a fudgy dipping sauce and chocolate dots.
In the Webby Awards’ coveted food and drink category, Israeli-based chocolate chain Maxbrenner.com (pictured above) was voted the best website by both the public and the academy’s panel of experts.
With locations in the US, Australia, Israel, Japan, Singapore and Russia, Max Brenner was created for chocoholics and exercises little restraint in its chocolate-themed menu.
Celebrity chef Mario Batali has emerged another big winner in the food category at this year’s Webbys, beating the likes of Katy Perry, U2, People.com and Bill Cosby to take the Webby Award for best celebrity/fan page.
In addition to a large Twitter presence, the chef’s Mariobatali.com website is a wide-ranging portal that offers everything from recipe ideas, interviews with celebrity friends and travel journal entries.
Batali’s How To Tuesday site also took the People’s Voice award for best How-to DIY video in the category of online film and video.
The Webby Award for best How-to DIY channel, meanwhile, went to another food media mogul, Jamie Oliver for his YouTube channel Food Tube, which has more than 787,800 subscribers.
Oliver’s recipes app also took the Webby for best lifestyle app in the category of tablets and other devices.
