Shawn Chong and Karl Too of Omakase+Appreciate have created two bespoke cocktails specially crafted for the Circuit Lounge event on March 29.

MAVERICK bartenders Shawn Chong and Karl Too of speakeasy bar Omakase + Appreciate have been selected as the Keep Walking Ambassadors for the upcoming Johnnie Walker Step Inside The Circuit Lounge party on March 29.
Chong is a familiar face at Johnnie Walker events, and has been involved in the brand’s signature race parties in Singapore and KL for several years. In 2011, he was crowned the local champion of the Diageo World Class Bartending Competition and represented Malaysia in Delhi at the Global Finals that same year. Outside of Omakase + Appreciate, Chong shares his wealth of knowledge as a lecturer at Sunway University.
Too discovered his talent and passion for the craft when he decided to try something new after starting his working life in computer programming. Diving into the unknown, Karl opted for a less conventional career switch when he was intrigued by bartending, finding great fulfilment in keeping his customers happy and interacting with an eclectic mix of people he meets at the bar.
Omakase + Appreciate was built on Chong and Too’s shared desire to bring the art to new heights, having noticed the lack of understanding and appreciation of cocktails in Malaysia. Their passion and individuality is plain to see for their customers, with personally tailored drinks made on request to suit their guests’ flavour preferences, keeping true to the concept the bar was founded on.
The duo crafted two original cocktails that will be served during the party – Gold Cocoa and Black Strike, each personifying the individual mixing styles of Shawn and Karl respectively.
The first is a rich, indulgent blend of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, chocolate syrup, coffee liqueur and caramel syrup; while the Black Strike uses Johnnie Walker Black Label in a drink that bring to life flavours of spice and fruitiness.
This collaboration with Chong and Too is part of Johnnie Walker’s Step Inside The Circuit Lounge 2014 campaign, which celebrates five talented individuals who share the same determination and progressive spirit that the brand’s founder, John Walker, possessed.
Johnnie Walker is inviting others who have been inspired by Chong and Too’s journey to share their stories via the Johnnie Walker Malaysia Facebook page. From there, a winner will be selected to receive invitations to the Johnnie Walker Circuit Lounge event on the 29 March. These will be presented at a special closed event by fellow inspiration and World Champion, Jenson Button.
