EXPERIENCING different tastes is one of the pleasures of eating, but the addition of synthetic flavourings and additives have masked the true flavours of many types of food.
To promote healthy eating by showcasing foods at their natural best, Borneo Incentives is organising The Week of Taste Malaysia for the second year until Oct 20, culminating in the Grand Bazaar at Publika from Nov 15 to 17.
The theme for this year is Experience, Indulge and Be Inspired.
The Week of Taste began in France in 1990 to educate youth about the importance of healthy eating and a balanced diet. Over the years, it has developed into a culinary festival in which quality food is showcased in various ways to the delight of diners as well as discerning gourmets.
“This is the week when fine restaurants open their doors to everyone. It is a week of discovery that is not expensive, and even free at times,” said Borneo Incentives director Lionel Roy at the launch held recently at La Vie En Rose restaurant in Jalan Raja Chulan.
He said visitors could expect a different experience this year with the participation of newcomers who had been given a free hand to show their creativity.
The event is under the patronage of the Embassy of France, Malaysian French Chamber of Commerce, French Foreign Trade Advisors, Alliance Francaise, Lycee Francais de Kuala Lumpur, Association Francophone de Malaisie and Mousquetaires.
Several events have been lined up during the week. The Table of Taste will involve 15 restaurants offering special menus for diners to experience fine and natural flavours at more affordable prices.
The Lessons of Taste and The Workshop of Taste bring together gastronomic experts to share moments of culinary pleasure.
Look out for cooking classes and health food talks conducted by professionals. Participants include The Cooking House, Classic Fine Food, Universita Del Caffe Della Malesia, Jaya Grocer, Nathalie’s Gourmet Studio, Culinary Capers, Le Cordon Bleu, The French Culinary School in Asia and Cafe L’Epi D’Or.
The French Culinary School in Asia and Jaya Grocer have teamed up with Flavours to come up with special workshop and subscription packages, complete with shopping vouchers/ hampers which will allow participants to immerse themselves in an all-round gastronomic experience.
Sign up for the special gourmet packages and just RM200 will get you a six-month subscription to Flavours (worth RM55), a cooking class worth RM200 at either the French Culinary School in Asia or Jaya Grocer and either a RM70 shopping voucher for redemption at Gourmandines, the French Culinary School’s retail arm, or a hamper from Jaya Grocer worth RM130, depending on which workshop you sign up for.
The Grand Bazaar will feature products from 22 exhibitors. Shoppers get to sample fine wines, dairy products, handcrafted ice-cream, organic pastries, premium chocolates and more.
It is also part of Publika’s Fashion, Art, Taste event, so do expect plenty of surprises under one roof.
