A MAJOR fixture on the global design calendar, Maison&Objet showcases the latest in interior design products and concepts. Founded in 1995 and held biannually in Paris, the pre-eminent show encompasses furniture, kitchenware, craft, textile design and tableware. The five-day event is more than just a buyer’s playground, it’s a good venue to spot the latest design direction for the coming year.
From March 10 to 13, Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Maison&Objet Asia at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. There will be 265 brands from 24 countries displaying their wares and concepts over 6,500sqm of space.
“M&O Asia is the new destination to see and experience the latest design trends emerging from the region and provides an opportunity to feature collaborative projects from around the region,” says Phillipe Brocart, managing director of Maison&Objet, in a press release.
M&O Asia will include an exhibition platform for emerging Asian designers called Rising Asian Talents. The six nominated designers from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan come from the fields of furniture, graphics, textile, lighting and fashion.
The Interior Design & Lifestyle Summit will present talks by celebrated designers like Oki Sato of Tokyo-based NENDO and Filipino Kenneth Cobonpue (featured here last week in SEA design blooms). Topics cover exemplary interior design projects in Asia and innovative concept stores.
Cobonpue has been selected as the M&O Asia Designer of the Year for his decades-long contribution to the design field. He will be creating an aspect of the show and will play the role of an ambassador for M&O Asia. — Leong Siok Hui
