July 5 marks the 25th anniversary of Seinfeld. To celebrate, we take a look at its female star’s quirky fashion.

As one of the most successful sitcoms in the history of American TV, Seinfeld has remained a favourite among many viewers around the world. The show, created by writer Larry David and comedian Jerry Seinfeld, made its debut on July 5, 1989 and lasted for nine seasons.

The show stars Seinfeld, who more or less plays himself, Jason Alexander as George Costanza, Michael Richards as Cosmo Kramer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Elaine Benes, Seinfeld’s former girlfriend-turned-bestfriend.

As the sole main female character in the sitcom, Elaine definitely stands out among the group for her strong personality, witty one-liners, epic romance fails and catchphrases (“GET ... OUT!”).

Her fashion choices were also pretty bold (and sometimes, uh, questionable) back then, but these days, the young and overly hip would probably see her as a true fashion icon.

Here are some of our favourite Elaine looks.

Elaine loves wearing comfortable clothes and can almost always be seen wearing flowy floral dresses, which she pairs with loafers or Oxfords. And white socks. Don't forget the white ankle socks.

Actress Abbie Cobb (right, AFP) turned up in an Elaine-inspired outfit a few weeks ago at a movie premiere in Los Angeles, California.

Collared dresses of the past ... have returned with a vengeance.

Elaine rarely wears clothes that show off too much skin; she prefers to cover up, which surprisingly makes her seem a lot sexier and more alluring. (Take note, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and other starlets who love skimpy outfits.)

Lena Dunham's character (centre) in Girls is a fan of the collared dress.

Elaine sometimes wears things that are too fashion forward for its own good back then, but today, they're considered pretty darn cool. Well, to some people, at least.

Elaine's cutout shirt may have looked ridiculous on the show, but the style is all the rage now, as showcased by January Jones at a red carpet event (AFP).

Walk into any highstreet fashion store today and you'll see tons of T-shirts, sweaters, pants, jackets, skirts and everything else in "currency prints", which Elaine totally pwned in this episode (hers was a swanky foreign currency print silk shirt). Miley Cyrus wore a currency print outfit while grocery shopping

Elaine championed the big hat (aka the 'urban sombrero') waaaaay before Pharrell (AFP).

Elaine sometimes wears glasses to mix things up. Hot.

Her hair poof, which has since evolved into many different versions, is messy sexy.

Alicia Keys certainly loves her poof. (AFP)

Lastly, every hipster has his/her own signature dance. This is Elaine's.
