Role in miniseries Wolf Hall, based on Hilary Mantel’s historical novel trilogy.
HOMELAND star Damian Lewis will play Henry VIII in the miniseries Wolf Hall, a six-part miniseries based on Hilary Mantel’s historical novel trilogy, Variety reports.
Wolf Hall will focus on Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII’s powerful counsellor, who played an essential role in bringing about the English Reformation of the 16th century.
British actor Mark Rylance (The Other Boleyn Girl) will portray Cromwell, described in Mantel’s novels as manipulative and opportunistic.
After playing a US Marine accused of terrorism in Homeland, Lewis is also
slated to appear in Werner Herzog’s Queen Of The Desert alongside Nicole Kidman,
James Franco and Robert Pattinson.
The title Wolf Hall comes from the first book in Mantel’s trilogy, which explores Thomas Cromwell’s formative years
and political ascension.
The miniseries will also draw on material from the
second book, Bring Up The Bodies, published in 2012,
and from the forthcoming third book, The Mirror And
The miniseries is slated to
air on BBC in Britain and on
PBS in the United States.
