This is also the first time that the wildly popular Chinese reality talent show is holding open auditions for talents from other countries, including Malaysia, to join their competition.

After four rounds of gruelling auditions, Ngu, who went by the stage name Virus previously, ousted the likes of other well-known homegrown talents like Suki Low, Gary Yap, Kopi Lim and Winson Voon to emerge as the one with the voice.

Ngu’s versatile vocals and solid song choice won the hearts of the panel of judges comprising Starry Production music director Zhang Li (from China), Taiwanese music producer Wang Chi Pin, Malaysian vocal coach Toni Lim and local Chinese jazz singer Winnie Ho.

“I’m excited, honoured and appreciative of this opportunity to compete in China. It is the best birthday present for me,” gushed Ngu who celebrated her 29th birthday on Wednesday.

A delayed telecast of The Voice Of China Season Three is set to air on 8TV every Saturday starting July 12. Good luck, Ngu! – Seto Kit Yan
