Ribbit is KRU’s first animated feature film. Produced in 3D, the film features the voices of Sean Astin, Tim Curry and Russell Peters.
Locally-made animated features have a chance to excel on the global stage.
As Disney’s Frozen continues to make a killing at the global box office, KRU Group is hoping that its very own animation studio will lead them in the same lucrative direction.
Last week, The KRU Group launched its animation arm, Kartun Studios, in Cyberjaya, Selangor. The studio specialises in creating and co-producing original features in 3D and 2D formats.
The KRU Group CEO and executive president Norman Abdul Halim believes locally-produced animated content has the chance to excel on the global stage.
“Take for example, Ribbit, our first 3D animated feature film. It has been sold to more than 80 countries,” said Norman.
Ribbit tells the tale of a frog and his journey to self-discovery in the Amazon rainforest. Ribbit also had its first world premiere at The Niagara Integrated Film Festival in Canada last Saturday. It won the Best Family Film award.
The film featuring the voices of Sean Astin, Tim Curry and Russell Peters is expected to open in Malaysia on Sept 4.
Apart from Ribbit, Kartun Studios also has three animated films and more than 200 series in the works for the next five years.
Also in the pipeline is Geckoman, an animated series based on the film Cicak-man.
