Singer Ezlynn will take on the role of Princess Artilla in 'Royal Showcase', a 45-minute musical production that will be presented at this year’s Royal Arts Gala.
A musical piece starring local talent will be the highlight of the second Royal Arts Gala.
IN her beloved kingdom, song, dance and vivid colours make up the days. So it is not without some trepidation that the lovely Princess Artilla finds out that she is betrothed to Prince Syah Rohan from a neighbouring land – one that has denounced the arts since the time of its forefathers.
With a heavy heart, she embarks on an expedition with the dashing but arts-oblivious prince to all corners of her land to show him the splendour of her land.
But will this glimpse into the magical world of arts be enough to transform the prince’s perception of what his ancestors have shunned for generations?
Starring singer Ezlynn, Tony Eusoff and Adibah Noor, this 45-minute musical Royal Showcase will be the highlight at the upcoming Royal Arts Gala, an arts initiative by My Performing Arts Agency (MyPAA) in collaboration with the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN).
Supported by the Tourism and Culture Ministry (Motac) and the Performance Management Delivery Unit (Pemandu), the initiative is aimed at energising collaborative partnerships for the creation and development of arts ventures in Malaysia. It serves as a platform to help support and raise the profile of the performing arts industry in the country.
Director Adlin Aman Ramlie describes the Royal Showcase as a “made-in-Malaysia performing arts product of world-class standard” and calls it “an opportunity for local talent to be presented to the corporate sector”.
“The musical will showcase the best of the best that the country has to offer,” he says.
“The beauty of this show is that it has the potential to be staged as a full-fledged production. My vision is to create a piece that puts forward a unique collaboration between everyone involved in the production.”
The creative team includes award-winning composer Onn San, Aswara Dance Company choreographer Fairul Zahid, production manager Melissa Teoh and artistic director Tommy Mansur.
MyPAA director Izan Satrina Mohd Sallehuddin says, “We couldn’t be happier to have a stellar line-up of the best with us for this Royal Arts Gala. The creative team is splendid and genuinely determined to give their best for the event, and the stars and artistes will bring all of the power and soul of this story to life in an all-new staging created specifically for the former Istana Negara. This is a once in a lifetime experience that our patrons will remember and certainly enjoy.”
Aside from the Royal Showcase, The Royal Arts Gala also includes a four-course dinner presented by Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur, a tour of the former palace, and the conferring of The Royal Medallions.
Proceeds of this fundraising event will be channelled to The Royal Arts Gala Fund.
More than RM700,000 was raised during the inaugural Royal Arts Gala in 2012, which have been channelled to 31 recipients including Akasha, Five Arts Centre, Rhythm in Bronze, Rimbun Dahan and Rumah Anak Teater, among others.
The second instalment of The Royal Arts Gala, originally scheduled for November last year, has been moved to this year to coincide with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
The Royal Arts Gala 2014 will see two special awards – the Creative Arts Royal Award and Corporate Arts Royal Award, to honour a creative practitioner and a corporate figure who has shown life-long passion and dedication to enriching the performing arts in the country.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah Hamidun will be gracing this prestigious event.
