The experienced MC wants to help out those interested in presenting radio and TV.
WE’VE seen her grow up on TV, from her start as a bubbly presenter with an infectious smile on Disney Buzz, to hosting travel, adventure and sports programmes like X-plorasi, Aktifpedia and Langit & Bumi, and moving into radio too, with her dulcet tones heard on The Red Fix programme on Red FM every day. And now the multi-talented Azura Zainal has ventured into yet another medium: books.
Azura Zainal’s Guide To Radio & TV Hosting is the latest addition to the MPH Masterclass series and was launched late last month in Centrepoint, Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.
While Azura might only be 33, she was already in front of cameras when she was in her teens and she’s had a whopping 15 years in the business of being an MC and hosting programmes on TV and radio. So we’re pretty sure her book will be useful to aspiring hosts and presenters; you can take a peek on what goes on behind the scenes and what it takes to get into and succeed in the hosting business.
“I wrote this book so that those who are interested can pick up best practices without having to stumble and fall too much along the way,” Azura explained at the book launch, adding that she was grateful to MPH for giving her this opportunity.
And there are, indeed, plenty of opportunities to stumble and fall because hosting is not easy. Azura lays out what’s required to break into radio, TV and live-event hosting, the do’s and don’ts to keep the gig, work ethics and a preparation guide to know what to expect.
“People think it’s a very glamorous job, but it’s just like any other job in the world. Anything that you do needs effort and hard work. You have to be ready to accept challenges,” said Azura, flashing that infectious smile.
Challenges are inevitable and Azura has faced them all. She wisely shares with readers that you have to be ready to accept them because they will come pouncing on you especially in the entertainment industry.
“The industry is very small and everybody knows one another, so when you are in it, the best advice? Just be yourself!” That was the first bit of advice she got from her producer, Angela Cheung, managing director of Asia Pacific Vision Limited, who was the guest of honour at the launch.
Apart from expressing her gratitude to MPH and Cheung as well as her current manager, her sister Zarina, Azura also thanked other supportive members of her family. She dedicated the book to her late mother who had been her pillar of strength. And husband Ibrahim Cristiano Da Silva – the pair married in December last year – has been very kind and gracious, according to Azura: “He’s been supportive and tries his best just to be with me.”
Azura Zainal’s Guide To Radio & TV Hosting is available at all major MPH bookstores and online at mphonline.com.
