Every user should step up as engaged stakeholders of the world wide web

Beyond consumption: We have to graduate from being mere users of technology to engaged stakeholders helping to determine the shape of this connected future driven by it.

THERE was a drinking game going on with off-site observers of the opening ceremony of the ninth Internet Governance Forum (IGF) that took place in Istanbul, Turkey, earlier this month.

For every mention of the word “multi-stakeholder”, a drink had to be downed. At least that was what the Twitter-sphere was advocating, as I sat in auditorium of the Lütfi Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Centre, fighting sleepiness and hunger.
