Gearing up for a stronger digital nation

Digi aims to help Malaysia forge ahead into the future.

Fast and consistent, Digi is constantly working to keep its customers connected, driving Malaysia to become a stronger digital nation

DIGI has been named the fastest and most consistent mobile network by various independent third-party network benchmarking reports in the past few quarters, since 2020, all of which prove the mobile service provider’s solid commitment to connect customers to what matters most.

Ookla, for example, ranked Digi as Malaysia's Speedtest Awards Winner for mobile network speed during Q3-Q4 in 2020. To win this award, Digi achieved a speed score of 29.36, with average download speeds of 29.59Mbps and average upload speeds of 11.75Mbps. It was also ranked most consistent operator in Q1-Q2 in 2020. In Q2 2021, Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence revealed that Digi was again the fastest mobile operator among top providers in Malaysia with a speed score of 30.20 on modern chipsets.

The accolades go on. An independent mobile analytics company billed Digi as offering the Best Download Speed Experience from December 2020 right up to August 2021; as well as Best Video Experience from December 2020 to February 2021.

An independent report published in September 2021 cites that Digi remains the outright winner of the Download Speed Experience award, as its users on the Digi network continue to enjoy the fastest overall download speeds.

In the same report, it also claimed Digi earned the No.1 Video Experience in several regions (occasionally tying with other providers) including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, as well as Kelantan, Kedah, Johor, Melaka, Perak, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.

Tutela meanwhile voted Digi best in download throughput in March 2021. In its annual report, Southeast Asia State of Mobile Experience, it stated that competition for first place in download throughput was fierce: just 0.8Mbps separated first and last place, with Digi taking top spot, ahead of the competition.

These results underline the fact that when you sign up with Digi, you’re assured of an uninterrupted, seamless and high-quality Internet experience with reliable speed.

So, when it comes to streaming and video conferencing, or mission critical services where a network lag could be life or death, you can rest assured that you’ve got the best mobile experience on hand. With Digi, you’re assured of constant uptime so your business is able to communicate effectively with its customers.

Since the movement control order (MCO) began in March 2020, Digi has seen a steady increase of data usage in every quarter from monthly data usage for Q1 2020 at 14.5GB per user, to Q2 2021 rising to 21.4GB per user.

Despite this increase, Digi was and has been able not just to meet its customers’ demands, but provide consistent and high-quality digital connectivity too.

It’s able to do this by constantly starting up new sites as well as upgrading and modernising existing sites, with the latest tech to boost capacity and improve both outdoor and indoor coverage. It is also constantly working to maintain connectivity across the country – progressively expanding its coverage.

One of Digi’s immediate focuses today is to migrate Digi 3G customers to 4G, as the 3G network is slated to shut down by Dec 31, 2021 in accordance with the Jendela programme by the Malaysian government to provide better connectivity and communication experience to all Malaysians.

During Phase One of this conversion plan, Digi has focused on increasing 4G coverage from 91.8% to 96.9% in populated areas, as well as increasing mobile broadband speeds from 25 Mbps to 35 Mbps. Its focus now is to upgrade from 3G to 4G for better quality Internet experience. Following this, it will launch into Phase Two, when the entire country is fully 4G enabled. The plan then will be to introduce 5G technologies, driving our country towards becoming a faster, stronger digital nation. Armed with speed, consistency and reliability, Digi aims to help Malaysia forge ahead into the future.
