Slow start for Bursa as IHH, Petronas stocks drag

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia started Friday on a slow pace following the lack of leads from fund managers after the disappointing corporate results and weak earnings going forward while IHH Healthcare and Petronas stocks weighed.

At 9.11am, the KLCI was down 1.57 points or 0.09% to 1,672.95. Turnover was 508.57 million shares valued at RM121.66mil. There were 195 gainers, 135 losers and 200 counters unchanged.

Asian stocks were mostly higher, building on this week’s gains despite concerns over a delayed US-China trade deal.  Equities in Japan and Korea rose, were little changed in Australia and futures pointed to small declines when Hong Kong opens, Bloomberg reported.

Nestle fell 60 sen to RM147.40 with 100 shares done, Petronas Dagangan lost 10 sen to RM25.02, MISC seven sen to RM6.67 and Petronas Chemical six sen to RM9.19 while IHH fell five sen to RM5.84.

However, Berjaya Food rose in active trade after its nine months earnings beat expectations, up 12 sen to RM1.63.

Uzma gained nine sen to RM1.14. PublicInvestment Research is positive on Uzma's unit securing a contract for the provision of directional drilling services from Pertaminia Hulu Energi Offshore north west Java.

Also up in early trade were Can-One, LC Titan and Teo Seng.
