Shahril appointed as Khazanah MD

KUALA LUMPUR: Khazanah Nasional Bhd has appointed Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan as managing director succeeding Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar. 

In a statement, the sovereign wealth fund said Shahril was scheduled to report for duty as managing director on Aug 20.

Datuk Shahril, 48, is currently the chief executive officer of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), having been appointed to the position on April 16 April, 2013. He was previously deputy chief executive officer (investment). 

Prior to joining the EPF, he was the managing director of Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB), where he was responsible for developing KL Sentral into one of the main commercial centres in Malaysia. 

He previously served Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd and was involved in corporate recovery and credit restructuring following the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997. 

He is presently a non-executive board member of Media Prima Bhd, Malaysia Building Society Bhd, Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd, MRCB and IJN Holdings Sdn Bhd. 

Shahril holds a Master of Arts (First Class) from Cambridge University and Bachelor of Civil Law (First Class) from Oxford University, and has been called to the Malaysian Bar and the Bar of England and Wales.

Khazanah would also like to welcome the new chairman and members of the board, whose appointments were announced by the Prime Minister’s Office on July 30.

“In addition, Khazanah wishes to record its thanks and appreciation to the previous members of the board and former managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar for their service and contribution to Khazanah and the nation,” Khazanah said. 

Last week, the entire Khazanah Nasional board of directors submitted their resignation letters after reaching a unanimous decision that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration should determine the company’s new leadership structure.

On Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the appointment of the following to the board of Khazanah:

1. YAB Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad - Chairman 

2. YB Dato Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali - Director 

3. Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican - Director 

4. Dr Sukhdave Singh - Director 

5. Mr Goh Ching Yin - Director
