KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd has awarded a one-year contract extension worth RM33mil to Marine & General Bhd’s (M&G) subsidiary Jasa Merin (M) Sdn Bhd for the use of two anchor-handling tug supply vessels (AHTSVs).

The marine logistics company (formerly Silk Holdings Bhd) told Bursa Malaysia that the original five-year contracts, which began on Jan 1, 2013, would therefore continue from Jan 1, 2018, to Dec 31, 2018.

During the primary term, the contracts in total are valued at about RM251.85mil, based on M&G’s January 2013 announcement.

According to M&G’s latest annual report, 70%-owned Jasa Merin operates a fleet of 21 vessels comprising 19 anchor-handling tug supply vessels and two straight supply vessels (SSVs).

SSVs are vessels specifically designed to transport equipment and cargoes to and from offshore installations while AHTSVs undertake anchor-handling functions (positioning and retrieval of drilling rig anchors) and towing activities in addition to providing SSV services.
