SC charges company director for failing to help in probe

Datuk Kamarudin Meranun has entered into a settlement with the Securities Commission for RM3.64mil over the purchase of 5.55 million Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) shares between Aug 1, 2011 and Aug 5, 2011.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission has charged a company director for failure to assist in an investigation and provide a statement.

The capital market regulator said on Tuesday Chok Chew Lan, 55, a director at Tsunami Capital Sdn Bhd, was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

The SC said Chok had failed to appear before an investigating officer of SC to be examined orally and to assist in an ongoing investigation.

“She is said to have committed the offences under section 134(5) of the Securities Commission Malaysia Act 1993 (SCMA) on Sept 5 and 19, 2017,” it said.

Chok claimed trial to the charges.

The C said Sessions Court Judge Hasbullah Adam granted her bail of RM20,000 with one surety, and also ordered her to surrender her passport.

The case is fixed for mention on Nov 27, 2017.

A breach of section 134(5) of the SCMA is punishable with an imprisonment term not exceeding five years or a fine not exceeding RM1mil, or both.
