MAA issues advisory over faulty airbag inflator


US consumers have filed a lawsuit with a US District Court in Florida in what is believed to be the first in the US to seek class-action status on behalf of consumers nationwide. KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has issued a consumer advisory on the faulty Takata airbag inflator recall issue.

The trade body had on Friday urged owners of affected vehicle models who had yet to get their airbag inflators replaced to contact the distributors of the vehicles immediately.

The MAA said the owners of the affected cars would receive free repairs.

It also provided a full list of the current recalls undertaken by MAA member companies, including the affected models and toll free numbers.

The affected models are Mazda2 (DE) 2010-2014; BT-50 (UN) 2004-2011; CX-9 (TB) 2007-2012. Mazda6 (GH) 2007-2009; Mazda6 (GG) 2003-2007; RX-8 (FE) 2008-2011 and CX-7 (ER) 2006.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor  Sdn Bhd's toll free number is 1800-88-3838 while its website is http://servicecampaign.nissan.com.my/

The affected models are Sentra N16 (June 2000-Dec 2012); X-Trail T30 (May 2002-Dec 2012); Liberty M12 (2003); Teana J31 (Aug-Sept 2004) and Frontier D22 (July 2004 - Dec 2012).

The others are Grand Livina L10 (July 2007 - Oct 2013); Navara D40 (2007-2014);  Latio C11 (June 2007-Oct 2014), X-Gear L10 (Nov 2010-Oct 2013).

The MAA said all current selling models were not affected.
