KUALA LUMPUR: TRX City Sdn Bhd, which is the developer of the Kuala Lumpur Air Base (PUKL) relocation project, including eight other locations, costing RM2.7bil, is confident the project will be ready by year-end.

Chief executive officer Datuk Azmar Talib said the amount included land acquisition cost, special equipment and utility works.

He said for now, three of the eight relocation sites namely PU Gong Kedak (Terengganu), PU Butterworth (Penang) and PU Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) Ipoh (Perak), had been completed.

The remaining five that are in the midst of being completed are PU Kuantan (Pahang), PU Subang and RMP Subang (Klang Valley), PU Sendayan (Negri Sembilan) and Royal Artillery Regiment (31 RAD) Kajang.

He said TRX City Sdn Bhd had also been tasked to build and upgrade several facilities in Subang and Kuantan.

“As the developer of the PUKL project, we are responsible for the design and  completion of the new facilities at the air bases including greenfield land not yet developed in Sendayan, Kajang and the air wing of the Royal Malaysian Police in Subang.

“The relocation project will replace the facilities at the Sg Besi PUKL which was no longer suitable and efficient as an air force operation base,” he told Bernama in an email.

Azmar also said TRX City Sdn Bhd, formerly known as 1MDB Real Estate Sdn Bhd, was proud to be involved in the modernisation of the facilities for the security forces, including the RMAF, Royal Artillery Regiment and RMP’s air wing.

The turnkey contractor for the project is Perbadanan Perwira Harta Malaysia, a subsidiary of the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) and is supported by 50 other bumiputra contractors.

He said the total relocated area would be about 6.3 million sq ft, which was about three times the size of the PUKL in Sg Besi.

“The Sendayan site only covers 300 hectares compared with Sg Besi PUKL’s 194.4ha.

“Besides, we have bought many pieces of land to replace those used to build the new facilities,” he said.

Azmar said apart from modern military equipment, Sendayan would be equipped with the largest RMAF training centre, sports facilities such as equestrian, football fields and futsal centre, facilities for water sports and an Islamic centre.

Meanwhile, Azmar said, PUKL Sungai Besi would be the site for Bandar Malaysia, an urban development project in Kuala Lumpur, which will house the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail terminus and become a central transport hub with connections to the Mass Rapid Transit lines, KTM Komuter, Express Rail Link and 12 other highways.

Bandar Malaysia will also offer sustainable and affordable urban housing in modern times, he added. - Bernama
