Datin Paduka Jamiah appointed to Maybank board

KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank Group has announced the appointment of Datin Paduka Jamiah Abdul Hamid as a non-executive director.

Jamiah, 61, who has over 30 years of experience in the corporate world, is the third female director on the Maybank board, the group said in a statement on Tuesday.

She has held various senior positions during the course of her career, including that of deputy president (corporate and human capital development) of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB). 

She has also served on a number of boards of government-linked and investee companies of PNB such as Malaysia Mining Corp Bhd, UMW Holdings Bhd and Chemical Company of Malaysia Bhd. 

She currently holds chairmanships in the Prolintas group of companies.

She received a bachelor’s degree of science (Finance) from the University of Northern Illinois, USA, and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. 

Jamiah has also attended various leadership and management programmes at Harvard Business School, USA, and the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. 
 
She is a certified holder of the Capital Market Services Representative’s Licence from the Securities Commission and a Certified Financial Planner with the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia.

Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor said she complemented the strengths of the board, given her vast experience and leadership positions.

“It also reaffirms our strong commitment in realising the group’s Inclusiveness & Diversity Agenda which aims to support greater representation of women in leadership positions within the Group,” he said.

The Maybank Board currently comprises three female directors who make up 25% of the board composition.
