KUALA NERUS: Terengganu targets to become a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub in the Asia-Pacific region by 2022.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said this was following a RM229mil MRO project undertaken by the state government in collaboration with aircraft maintenance company, Admal Sdn Bhd.
“The project will be undertaken in three phases on a location specified under the Sultan Mahmud Airport development plan, including the construction of airport apron, workshops and refuelling facilities.
“Initially, Admal will carry out MRO works for narrow-body aircraft such as A320 and B737 before expanding to wide-body aircraft which is expected to take place in the final phase,” he told reporters after the MRO project agreement signing ceremony in Kuala Nerus on Tuesday.
Ahmad Razif said in addition to the MRO complex, a flight training centre would also be built on 14.6ha.
“We are pleased that Admal has agreed to sponsor nearly RM4mil to finance 50 outstanding students to undergo training at the centre starting from June this year.
“We expect the centre to create 660 new job opportunities,” he said. - Bernama
