FIC’s revamp will make it more competitive - GWGF

SHAH ALAM: The proposed reorganisation of Felda Investment Corp Sdn Bhd’s (FIC) management is a step in the right direction to turn it into a more competitive company, Gabungan Wawasan Generasi Felda (GWGF) said.

FIC, a subsidiary of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), is principally involved in the areas of property development, hospitality and strategic investments.

GWGF deputy president Lt Col (Hon) Datuk Abdullah Abu Bakar described the unprecedented move by Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad demanding the resignation of all members of FIC board of directors as a firm action in order to restructure the company.

As FIC is critical to Felda, Abdullah said it should be given “a new lease of life” in order to make it more competitive.

“It is hoped that the revamp can help improve Felda’s image in terms of governance and leakages, which were tarnished as cited in the Auditor-General’s Report Series 2 2015,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Abdullah hopes the revamp would be carried out holistically at all levels, not only in FIC, but also other organisations under Felda’s umbrella.

FIC should be run by credible individuals with qualifications in economics and management who could lead the company to profitability for the benefit of the Felda community, he added.

“GWGF hopes the new FIC board members will be drawn from settlers’ children who are equipped with management skills and business acumen such as GWGF president Tan Sri Rozali Ismail,” he said.

Commending Shahrir for bringing changes to Felda’s leadership structure, he said the member of parliament for Johor Baru was striving for organisational excellence in terms of economic planning, education, as well social development and transformation of the new generation.

He said GWGF was confident that Shahrir’s leadership and experience would put him in good stead to continue to eradicate wrongdoings as entrusted by the Felda community.

“GWGF will continue to give full support to all Felda’s plans for the wellbeing and excellence of all settlers throughout the country.

“With quality leadership, Felda can propel to greater heights globally and ultimately brings a positive impact to Felda as a whole,” he said. - Bernama
